What would work best for the cover/title?

I am debating between a illustrative cover with hand-drawn type (in the style of the book)
OR a purely typographic cover with the title "Imagining Space" in a bold sans-serif (ie. Gotham)

  1. Hey Nicole!,

I don't know if you considered it, but why not have a cover without a title? The reason I suggest it is because space is so vast, and we really don't know what's out there. As a substitute to the title maybe you could do like an emboss of our solar system or the astronaut's journey through space? Like a mini map if you will. IMO It would look hellafresh with a black cover and and deboss of the galaxy/journey map. You could add your title along the spine.

To answer the question -- I digg the hand-drawn typographic treatment more because of the way it resonates with your illustrations.

  2. I'm on the fence about this one. I love the illustrations so much! They are really charming, on the one hand, I think that you should extend that style to the cover to intrigue people and bring them into the book, and I also think that there is lots of potential for awesome space-style hand-type. But I also think that it could be interesting to have a really plain cover that opens up to all that action inside! It might be nice if you could do a coloured leather cover or something that looks really classic and then it opens up to your super-colorful drawings.

  3. It simply has too be the illustrations rather than just type. The main aesthetic of your book is the illustration, so if you are not going to put it in, or even represent it in some way then I think the cover would be misleading. Maybe combine typography with the spaceman?
